115 / 5,000 Committee Appreciates Launch of Selected News “Google News Showcase” and Encourages Cooperation with Media Companies
The Digital Platform Corporate Responsibility Committee for Quality Journalism (KTP2JB) appreciates the launch of selected news from Google News "Google News Showcase" in Indonesia on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. A total of 34 media companies covering national, regional, and local media have collaborated with Google through this program.
KTP2JB encourages this collaboration to be improved with all media companies spread throughout Indonesia.
"The Committee appreciates the launch of Google News Showcase in Indonesia. This is one form of fulfillment of the responsibility of digital platform companies for quality journalism as mandated by Presidential Regulation 32/2024," said KTP2JB Chairman Suprapto Sastro Atmojo at the KTP2JB office on the second floor of the Press Council Building, Jalan Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta on Monday (2/6/2025).
According to Suprapto, the launch of Google News Showcase has been awaited by the press community in Indonesia. The press community hopes that this program can encourage a healthy digital ecosystem for the press in Indonesia so that it can realize quality journalism.
"We also hope that this program can improve the income of media companies and improve the welfare of journalists and media workers," added Suprapto.
KTP2JB also encourages other digital platforms to collaborate with media companies in Indonesia, as mandated by Presidential Regulation Number 32 of 2024 concerning the Responsibility of Media Companies for Quality Journalism (KTP2JB).
For almost a year, KTP2JB has taken various steps to encourage collaboration between digital platforms and media companies. One of them is by creating Guidelines for Fulfilling the Obligations of Digital Platform Companies for Quality Journalism which was launched on Monday, March 10, 2025 at the Office of the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) in Jakarta.
"The Committee hopes that after the launch of Google News Showcase, other platforms will also follow suit. We plan to invite digital platforms such as Meta, Tiktok Indonesia and X to discuss various programs to advance quality journalism." concluded Dr. Suprapto Sastro Atmojo
